Charlie Cannon

LOCAL Architecture Research Design

Charlie Cannon, is a designer and educator working in Providence, Rhode Island. In 2005, Mr. Cannon co-founded LOCAL where he is Director of Research and Design. In that role, he applies rigorous design methods to create services, information systems and objects for clients across a wide range of sectors including: community development, healthcare, and energy. His focus on user-centered experience has been applied to parking garages (Providence Place Mall) and websites that support social networking and experimental education (The Met School/The Big Picture Co.). Charlie Cannon maintains an active role in the fields of experience and service design. He has lectured at IBM to their service design group. He initiated and co-directed the Healthcare Innovation Project for RISD and the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation.
Charlie Cannon is a Professor of Industrial Design at the Rhode Island School of Design. He is the recipient of a research design grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (w/ Colgate Searle & Anne Tate) and a Collaborative Innovation Award from the Providence Business News. He has a Masters of Architecture from Harvard University and a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology for Wesleyan University.
