Miriam Zisook

Designer

Miriam is an Industrial Design student at RISD. Passionate about using design to enable people with disabilities to participate fully in their communities, she has worked for a long time as an assistant in special education classrooms and recreational programs where she found that her students were often much more limited by the tools and spaces they used than by their disabilities themselves.

Miriam has worked on various projects that address the usability of devices for people with disabilities. The most satisfying to her was a chair for a child with a physical disability who could not sit with his peers in the lunchroom without it. Miriam's specialty is developing deep awareness of the needs of the user by spending time with them and using existing available products so her designs are based on not only speculation but a true understanding of how the product must perform.
